Obituary

Retired Warwick Twp. Police Officer Sgt. Richard William "Rick" Groff, 62, of Lititz passed away Friday, December 16, 2016 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy. He was the loving husband of Celeste C. (Grimm) Groff to whom he was married to for 30 years. Born in Lancaster he was a son of the late Victor and Betty (Shoop) Groff. Rick served his country in the US Air Force as a law enforcement specialist. In 1976 he started his career at the Warwick Twp. Police Department as a patrolman and then sergeant focusing on traffic enforcement prior to his retirement in 2009 after 33 years of service. He continued his passion for law enforcement pursuing his second career as an instructor for the police cadets at HACC. His final class graduated this past December 8 as part of the 17th part-time police academy class. In addition to his lengthy career in law enforcement Rick enjoyed watching, listening and collecting memorabilia from the New York Yankee's. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Red Rose Lodge #16. Rick was an avid poker player, serving as commissioner for his poker league Bullets in the Hole. He spent time collecting music and appreciating the music world. His favorite artist being Elvis Presley. In addition to his wife Celeste, he is survived by his two sons Shane Groff and Shannon Groff both of Ephrata and one daughter Amanda, wife of Jeremy Fryburg of E. Petersburg, PA; five grandchildren Damien, Elle, Lilliana, Darien, and Madison Rose; three brothers Barry Groff husband of Debbie of York, Kenny Groff husband of Cindy of Manheim and David Groff husband of Sue of New Holland; one sister Vickie, wife of Carmen Muckle of Ephrata and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 11AM from the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 with Pastor Mark Thiboldeaux officiating. Interment with military honors will be held Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 11AM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Viewings will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8PM and Wednesday from 10-11AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604 in his memory.
