Richard L. Heckman, 83, passed away at his Lititz, PA residence on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Dick celebrated 60 years of marriage with his wife Vicki D. (Long) Heckman last March 6th.
He was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Apollo, PA, the son of the late Walter M. and Gertrude E. (Kerr) Heckman. Dick graduated from Apollo High School and Southeastern University in Washington, DC with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
Dick and Vicki lived in College Park, MD while he was a federal law enforcement officer for the U.S. Department of State spanning a career of 32 years. Dick escorted several Secretaries of State, as well as foreign dignitaries while they were on U.S. soil.
He loved hunting at the Warren County family cabin that his father and grandfather built. Dick also enjoyed trout and deep-sea fishing, and fishing for Salmon on the West Coast. He was a member of Northern Lancaster County Game & Fish Protective Association.
Dick always had a dad joke or a pun to share. He was an accomplished New York Times Crossword Puzzle solver. Dick coached his sons Mike and Dave when they played little league baseball.
In addition to his loving wife Vicki, Dick's family includes their daughter, Sue Landy of Myerstown, PA, sons, Mike Heckman and fiancée Dorinda Hill of Indian Head, MD, and Dave Heckman, husband of Margi of Lititz, PA; nine grandchildren, Chris Landy, Katie Mansi, Jessica Heckman, Sean Heckman, Rachael Heckman, Dr. Emily Heckman, Bryan Heckman, Rob Heckman, and Julie Withers; and two great-grandchildren, Zoey Withers and Callum Withers. Also surviving Dick are his sister-in-law Dee Heckman, nephew, Dan Heckman, and niece, Pam Lash. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother Robert Heckman, and his grandson Mike Heckman.
Dick's family will receive guests from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, followed by a Christian Prayer Service at 3:00 pm with The Rev. Stephen D. Weitzel officiating, on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz, PA 17543. Interment will be private.
