Richard B. Eshleman, 88, of West Lampeter Twp. and formerly of East Lampeter Twp., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Lancaster to the late Norman and Mary C. (Book) Eshleman. Richard, and his wife, Thelma M (Bechtold) Eshleman recently celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Richard was a 1944 graduate of J. P. McCaskey High School. After graduation, he entered the Navy and served as a Carpenters Mate 3rd Class with the SeaBees 121st Naval Construction Battalion during WWII. Richard then worked a short time with Warfel Construction and then with the US Post Office as a Mail Carrier. After retiring from the Post Office, Richard worked part time with Commonwealth Securities and Manheim Auto Auction.
Richard faithfully attended Grace Evangelical Congregational Church for 65 years where he served on the church board. He enjoyed working in the garden with his wife. Spending time with family was very important to him.
In addition to his wife, Thelma, Richard is survived by 4 children: Joy, wife of Dave Mason of Manor Twp.; Jere Eshleman, MD, husband of Marilyn (Lausch) of Williamsport; John Eshleman, husband of Phyllis (Smith) of West Lampeter Twp.; and Jay Eshleman, husband of Beverly (Nolt) of West Lampeter Twp. Also surviving him, are 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Eshleman.
Services will be held at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 East King Street, Lancaster, PA on Saturday, November 1, 2014. Viewing will take place from 1-2 PM followed by the funeral at 2 PM. Pastor Mark Ammerman, officiating. Interment will be in the Quarryville Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
