Obituary

Richard S. Bell (Dick), 88, of Lititz, and formerly of Bedford and Flourtown, PA, was born in Baltimore, MD, on October 14, 1935, and died peacefully at Moravian Manor in Lititz on December 13, 2023, following a brief but intense battle with a brain tumor. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick Dawson and Evelyn P. Bell, and his brother, Frederick Dawson, Jr.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Elaine H. Bell, son Steven (Leigh-Anne), son David (Anita), 5 grandchildren (Cody, Tyler, Emma, Abby and Jeremy) and a great-grandson (Oliver). He is also survived by three nieces and numerous cousins.

Dick was a member of the Bedford High School Class of 1953 and graduated from The College of William & Mary in 1957. He became a member, joining his father, of the Masonic Lodge #320 in Bedford and worked for 43 years in the lawn and farm seed industry. Dick began his sales career by traveling throughout Central PA and then as a Credit Manager in the Philadelphia, Spring House and Denver, PA, offices of the former Stanford Seed Company of Buffalo, New York. He retired in 2000 from the Lebanon Chemical Company, eventual owners of the Stanford Seed Company, located in Lebanon, PA. He downsized to a retirement sales opportunity with a Flourtown car agency…a short and pleasant walk to his desk! Other interests included golf, reading, gardening, singing and enjoying fellowship with members of church choirs in addition to volunteering in his community, particularly with the Flourtown-Erdenheim Little League.

The family is grateful for the extraordinary support and loving care provided for Dick and each of us by the Masonic Village Hospice team and the Moravian Manor health care staff.

A memorial service for Dick will be held on January 3, 2024, beginning at 10:30 am., at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 W. Orange Street, Lititz. Friends will be greeted at 10:00 am.
