Regina "Jean" C. Hohenwarter, 90, of St. Anne's Retirement Community and formerly of Wilshire Hills, Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. She was born in Lancaster to the late William L. and Mary M. (Herzog) Welsh. Jean was the loving wife of Norman C. Hohenwarter, Sr. before he passed away last August 17th. February 26th would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.
Jean graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1947. A homemaker, she enjoyed reading and doing craftwork. She retired from AA Electric Supply Company in 1991.
She was a longtime parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was past president of the Mother's Club and was active in the Altar Rosary Society, Legion of Mary and Serra Club. She was also a member of the Association of Priests' Parents.
Jean is survived by her sons, Donald W. Hohenwarter, husband of Mary (Powell) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Rev. Norman C. Hohenwarter, Jr. of St. Anne's; her daughter Mary C. wife of Ronald Hemming of Birmingham, AL; five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and two siblings, Patricia Olson of Lancaster and William Welsh, III, husband of Linda (Doersom) of Conestoga. She was preceded in death by her infant sons Carl, Mark, John and Albert, and more recently by son Steve. Jean was also preceded in death by her bothers Donald W. and John P. Welsh and her sisters Margaret Fittipaldi and Donna Welsh.
A viewing will take place Monday, March 4th from 10 to 11 AM, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with The Rev. Norman C. Hohenwarter, Jr. as Celebrant, in the St. Anne's Retirement Community Chapel. Final Commendation and Farewell will take place in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
