Raymond J. Schuelkens, 89, of Lancaster passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 at LGH. Born in Covington, KY he was the son of the late Raymond J. and Loretta (Kautz) Schuelkens. He was married to Margaret R. (Kitch) Schuelkens for over 69 years. He worked in the pre-press dept. as a compositor for Cadmus Printing Co., formerly Lancaster Press for over 52 years retiring in 1999. Raymond was a veteran proudly serving in the US Navy as a storekeeper 1st class, serving aboard the U.S.S. George E. Badger destroyer ship. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatre of Operations during WWII where he received the Presidential Unit Citation star. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Raymond was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #867. He enjoyed woodworking and clock making. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Dennis R. Schuelkens, husband of Patricia, of Fleetwood, PA, Diane S. Monaghan, wife of Charles P., of Waltham, MA, and Richard T. Schuelkens, husband of Lisa, of Lititz; Also surviving are six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren and a sister, Lorraine Moehlman, of Covington, KY. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Schuelkens. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30AM on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St, Lancaster, PA with his grandson, Rev. Dennis Schuelkens, Jr. as Celebrant. A viewing will be held from 7-9PM Tuesday with a Prayer Service at 9PM at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz. Interment will be on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 9AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Lancaster. Memorial contributions in Raymond's memory may be made to the church at the above address.
