Raymond L. Kingcaid, 84, of Lititz, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Whitehall, PA, Raymond was the son of the late Raymond A. and Mahala (Dunbar) Kingcaid. He and his wife, Lucy Ann (Herness) Kingcaid celebrated their 57 th wedding anniversary on November 22, 2008.
Raymond served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was involved in five European campaigns aboard the U.S. Evea, and during the Korean Conflict, served as First Class Petty Officer of the Quartermaster/Signalman Corps aboard the U.S.S. Salvager. He also was Instructor of Seamanship at U.S.N.T.S. Bainbridge, MD.
Raymond was employed by Lancaster Newspapers for forty-three years as Secretary and Treasurer, responsible for Taxes and Investments of Steinman Holdings, Inc., Lancaster Newspapers., Inc., Lancaster County Weeklies, Inc., Lancaster Farming, Inc., Intelligencer Printing Co., Cable Associates, Inc., Delmarva Broadcasting Co., and Steinman Coal Corp., before retiring on July 1, 1993. He was a member of Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, and was a life member of Lancaster Chapter of Institute of Management Accountants, and of Tax Institute of America.
A member of St. James Catholic Church in Lititz, PA, Mr. Kingcaid was the first Eucharistic Lay Minister to be appointed. He was Past President of Holy Name Society, and of the Pastoral Council, treasurer of the bingo program, Finance Officer of the Parish, and member of Finance Counsel, member of St. James Benevolent Society, former Hall Rental Coordinator, served on local committee of Bishop's Consultation Committee, member and was founding President of Silver Liners (Senior citizen group), and also served as their Treasurer, a member of Planning Committee of St. James, and was a member of St. James Mens Club. He was founding Troop Committeeman of Boy Scout Troop #142 (then sponsored by Men of St. James), and served as Treasurer for eight years.
Raymond was Past President of Deanery Regional School Board (now defunct), and was a former Board member and Finance Chairman of Lancaster Catholic High School. He was a member of the Diocesan Education Board Finance Committee, reviewing High School budgets, for six years, and served on the Investment and Communications Committees of the Bishop's Board of Directors.
A Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Raymond was Past Grand Knight of Lancaster Council #867, former District Deputy of Lancaster County, Certified Assigned District Deputy in Degree Work, Pennsylvania, and an honorary member and Council Vocations Director of the Father White Council, Lititz, PA, and of the Santa Maria Assembly.
His service to the community included membership in Warwick Township Citizens' Water Committee, and he was first Secretary of Warwick Township Municipal Authority, a member and Finance Chairman of the Advisory Board of Precious Blood Spiritual Center, Columbia, a member as well as President and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of Long Home, Lancaster, member of Board of Directors of Lititz Warwick Community Chest, delivering food to needy families, as well as a driver for Lititz PA Meals On Wheels.
Raymond was a member of Lancaster Serra Club, where he served as founding member and Treasurer, Past President, and was Past District Governor (eight clubs) District 80, Past District Governor (four clubs) District 80-2, and was Vice President for Communications and Newsletter Editor for the Lancaster Club. He was a former member of Mecca #88, Order of Alhambra (now defunct), and a member of Men of Malvern Palm Sunday Retreat Group, a member of American Legions Post No. 56 of Lititz, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1463 of Lititz. Raymond was also a former member of the Hamilton Club, and a member of Elstonville Sportsman Association, and Martz's Gap View Hunting Preserve.
In addition to his wife, Raymond is survived by his children, Dr. Renee A. Kingcaid of South Bend, IN, Deborah A. Barone of Lititz, Raymond S. Kingcaid of Hatfield, PA, and Mary Elizabeth Ferris, wife of Ira, of Pequea, four grandchildren, and sister, Shirley, wife of Peter Lawall of Whitehall, PA. He is preceded in death by his brother, Harold Kingcaid.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial from St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Ave., Lititz, PA on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Rev. James O'Blaney as Celebrant. A viewing will be held at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Friday evening from 6:30 until 9 PM, with the recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 PM. Interment will be at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of ones choice.
