Ray S. Balmer, 87, of 140 Greensprings Rd., York died Sunday morning November 11, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Congestive heart failure. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Lester and Ella Mae (Shriner) Balmer. He was the loving husband of the late Gloria E. Balmer who passed away in July of 2011. Ray and Gloria were married for 55 years.
Ray started working for Raymark as a Quality Control Supervisor and became a member of the American Society for Quality Control and the Industrial Management Club. Ray was promoted to Supervisor of the Aerospace Department and tasked with the overseeing of the production of the sensors for patriot missiles. Ray retired after many years of service.
He loved to meet new people so he started working at the Manheim Auto Auction with other Raymark retirees. Due to the Alzheimer's he was forced to stop driving. Ray was a lifetime member of Manheim Lodge #587 F&Am and was also a member of the former Lititz first Church of God. In his spare time he was on the Pit Crew for Gary Wolford #46 at Silver Springs speedways.
Ray is survived by daughters, Heather Eichelberger (Bobby) of York, Bridget Miller of Lafayette, CO; Kim Becker (Rick) of Elizabethtown a son, Greg Balmer ( Donna) of Boulder, CO; three granddaughters, Keira Eichelberger of York, Lauren Becker of Elizabethtown; and three grandsons Cole Eichelberger of York, Ty Miller of Lafayette and Derek Becker of Elizabethtown and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Balmer and a sister Reba Kreider.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, December 1st at 11am at Spacht-Snyder Funeral Home with Rev. R. Victor Shifler officiating, 127 S. Broad Street, Lititz, PA 17543. The family will receive guests from 10am until the time of service. Private interment will be held at East Fairview Brethren Cemetery.
