Ratib Sofar Baker, 94, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Abbeyville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Amman, Jordan, he was the son of the late Sofar Afoneh and Samia Kabshura.

Ratib immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 with intention of getting a college degree. He did his studies at Guilford College in North Carolina. During college he chose to join the military during the Korean war. He was stationed in Japan, where he worked as an X-ray technician for the U.S. Army. Following his service, Ratib returned to college where he graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Engineering. He then embarked on a successful career in technology, working for several leading tech companies throughout his life. He even had a few patents over the years.

Ratib is survived by his children, Ratib E. Baker, Samea Baker, Kammal Baker, and Halla Baker; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Nadim Baker; his sister, Weidad; and brother, Muhammad.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
