Porsia F. Palumbo, 91, longtime resident of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019. She was born November 26, 1927 in Lancaster, daughter of the late Antonio and Dorothy Palumbo.

She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Lancaster, where she attended school grades 1 through 8. She attended Lancaster Catholic High School for three years and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Lancaster in 1945. Porsia graduated from Millersville State Teachers College in 1948 where she was a member of the Delta Phi Eta, a national honor society Porsia obtained a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Delaware.

Porsia began her teaching career at John F. Reynolds Junior High School where she taught geography and Spanish. She later transferred to J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster where she taught Spanish III, IV, and V and Italian I. She also served as an instructor in Spanish at Elizabethtown College. In 1999 she was an initial member of the Lancaster Italian Cultural Society.

She traveled through Europe and studied in Palma de Mallorca, Spain and at the University of Perugia, Italy.

Surviving is her niece, Anne F. Roe of Landenberg, PA and cousins in Lancaster, Italy and France. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Francis A. Palumbo and his wife Dianne.

A Viewing will be held from 9-10:30AM on Monday, March 11, 2019 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd, Lancaster, PA 17601 with Msgr. Richard A. Youtz as celebrant. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Porsia's memory may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus School, 235 Nevin St, Lancaster, PA 17603.
