Philip T. Barry, 70, of Lititz, PA passed away peacefully at his home on July 5, 2004. He was the loving husband of Sue Ann Barry to whom he was married for 39 years. He is a retiree of the U.S. Postal Service where he had a 34-year career as a letter carrier. His coworkers estimated that, at 10 miles a day, he walked the circumference of the earth 4-1/2 times by the end of his tenure. Easing into retirement, he worked part time at Troegs Brewery in Hershey. He was born June 30, 1954, in Lebanon, PA to the late Robert C., and Anna (Maika) Barry. Phil graduated from Lebanon Catholic High School in 1972 and attended West Virginia University (WVU). He was an avid sports fan, golfer and hockey player. At WVU, he was instrumental in establishing an ice hockey program when tryouts were on a frozen pond. He played left forward in club hockey from the time he was a young boy until the time he knew better. He had a brief stint at curling during high school.
Phil's favorite sports teams to root for were the Boston Bruins, the Green Bay Packers, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He loved telling friends that he was part owner of the Packers (he had one share). He had a love of reading and music from all genres. Besides his wife, Phil is survived by siblings Michael E. (Lynne of Annville, PA), Jeanne F. Schelhorn (Robert of Palmyra, PA), Barbara A. Titus (John of Lancaster, PA), Colleen L. Hagen of Denton, TX, Gladys M. Walborn of Cleona, PA, John J. Barry of Long Beach, CA, Margaret B. Smith (Dr. Harvey of Naples, FL), and Patrick C. (Sara of Chappaqua, NY), siblings-in-law Denise Shepherd (Austin (Reg) of Monroe, CT), Joseph D. Scarcia (Andrea of Linglestown, PA), many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Robert C. Barry, Jr. (surviving wife Nancy of Pittsburgh), and Daniel L. Barry, Sr. (surviving wife Mary Ann of Vernon, CT), and brothers-in-laws Dr. Douglas Hagen and Gary Walborn.
He especially enjoyed spending quality time with his wife, members of his family and his many friends. He was full of life and will be remembered for his gentle nature. Phil loved the beautiful town of Lititz, a place he & Susi called home and coveted immensely. Phil also loved traveling on this continent and in Western Europe. He and his wife had a special place in their hearts for rescuing golden retrievers over their four decades together, especially senior goldens.
Friends and family are all invited to attend a Celebration of Phil's life to be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz Pa. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Phil's memory to the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute or Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Heart & Vascular Institute www.lancastergeneralhealth.org/giving-foundation / or Lancaster General Heart Group.
