Phares G. Harting, 86 of Lancaster passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015. Born in Adamstown, PA he was the son of the late Phares G. Harting, Sr. and the late Sadie (Glass) Harting. He was married to Ann (Byars) Harting for over 63 years. He graduated from Shillington High School. Phares worked for RR Donnelley as an offset pressman for many years and was a member of the Susquehanna Litho club. Phares loved music and played the tuba for the Reading Symphony Orchestra for over 25 years. He also played with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra and the Ringgold Band of Reading. He proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict where he played in the 769th Air Force band. He was known to play his string bass for many local nursing facilities and their residents. He was an all-around handyman who could build almost anything and built his house in the Poconos, where he enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed making stain glass. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Michael H. Harting husband of Catharine A., of Alta Loma, CA; two daughters, Vicki L. Haines wife of James E. Sr. of Willow Street, PA and Julie Harting companion of Norberto Valle, of New York City, NY. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Erica Walters, Erin Harting, Andrew Haines and Adriene Mellinger; eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, Rev. Robert F. Harting of Denver, PA and Philip H. Harting of Adamstown. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Church of the Apostles, 1850 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603 with Rev. Kathryn Kuhn officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment at 2:30PM in Cedars Grove Cemetery, Adamstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Phares's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater PA Chapter, 2595 Interstate Dr, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
