Obituary

Peter Harvest of Lancaster, passed on May 21, 2016, peacefully, at Lancaster General Hospital after a recent illness with his family by his side. He was born in Frackville, PA on August 4, 1930. Peter's life began and ended with his love of music. He learned to play the trumpet, a treasured gift from his Father, and formed a band to help his family while in school. After graduating from Frackville High, he enlisted in the Air Force, serving as a crew chief on a B-47 during the Korean Conflict. After four years of service he was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was very patriotic, and loved his country. He then began a new life in Lancaster working at RCA, the Radio Corporation of America as a stock person, and entry level position to the business. He eventually worked his way up to management taking courses at F&M College. His work at RCA included several government contracts, and he enjoyed the challenges. His time at RCA was spent in the power tube, fabrication and development division. After retiring in 1987, Pete became interested in golf. He couldn't play or watch enough. It became his passion, and he loved being outdoors on a different golf course every week with his friends. His love of sports was lifelong, and he was the Washington Redskins's number one fan! His other interests included spending time with his family, friends, and enjoying every moment. Family vacations and celebrations were always special for him. He loved animals, especially his dogs Abby Lynn and Kaitlyn who will be there waiting for him. Peter had a strong faith that helped him through the many challenges he's faced these past years. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Frackville, PA. In the past, and recently has been a part of St. Andrew Ukrainian Catholic Mission in Lancaster. Pete simply loved life, cared about people, and had a passion for all he endeavored. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years June, daughter Lori of Lancaster, Brother Emil and wife Alice of Florida, Goddaughter Taryn and husband Peter of Allentown, and nephews, nieces, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Panko and Kathryn Harvest, and sisters Anne Hoffman and Marie Stec. All who love Pete will miss him. In spite of his health problems, he's always done his best, and many people have touched his life to help. He lived his life "his" way, and what a full, wonderful life it was. Now he's left this life "his" way also. With grace. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Charles F. Snyder, Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz with the Revs. John Seniw and Andryi Rabiy as Celebrants. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the funeral home, and again one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers at Pete's request, please contribute to the City of Lancaster's Mounted Patrol Unit or K-9 Unit, 39 W.
