Paula Marie Schlager, 89, formerly of Hershey Heritage Village in Lancaster, died Sunday, December 16 ^th in Palm Desert, CA.

She was the wife of the late J. Kenneth Schlager, who died in 2004. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Edward H. and Anna B. Ettner Ransing.

Paula had been a homemaker, and was an active member of St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, where she had served as the president of the National Council of Catholic Women for the parish, district and Diocese. She was also active in many community organizations including the Blind Assn., the American Cancer Society and WICS.

She enjoyed knitting, gardening and crossword puzzles.

Paula is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. Schlager MD and son-in-law Gary T. Petrauski MD, with whom she lived in Cathedral City, CA. She is also survived by a sister, Loraine Grant of Medford, MA.

Friends will be received on Friday from 10-11AM at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA , with the Mass to follow at 11AM, Fr. William Sullivan serving as Celebrant. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Assn., 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 202, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
