Paul Wissler, 99, of Lititz, died Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Brethren Village, Lititz. Born at the family home in Millway, PA, Paul was the son of the late Levi K. and Mabel Rupp (Wolf) Wissler, and the beloved husband of Jane Evelyn (McKenzie) Wissler of Evergreen, AL, who died in 1981.
Paul was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Congregation Church, Lititz, PA, serving as church board treasurer for many years. He traveled on several mission trips outside the U.S., including Kenya and Mexico. He worked in mortgage lending at First Federal Savings, Lancaster, and as senior vice president of Penn Savings Bank, Lancaster, and Sovereign Bank, Reading, PA, from where he retired in 1988. A 1943 graduate of Warwick Township High School in Rothsville, he later received associate degrees in accounting and real estate law from Franklin and Marshall College and Pennsylvania State University Continuing Education, respectively.
Serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he did two tours (1949 – 1951), most notably in the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, which earned a Distinguished Unit Citation. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge and Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Campaign Stars as a Corporal. An active runner, he participated in many local races and 20 marathons, concluding in 2003 with the Blue Angel Marathon, Pensacola, FL, at the age of 77. He was also an avid horseback rider and member of the Tokawanda Riding Club and rode the Horseshoe Trail 20 times. Civic activities included serving on the Lititz Springs Park board and president of the Warwick School Board. He was also a benefactor to the Lititz Recreation Center, where he was active for many years, and the Lititz Public Library.
Paul is survived by daughter Shirley, wife of Kyle Awkerman, Lebanon, and son Steven, husband of Veida (LeBaron) Wissler, Ephrata; two grandchildren: Thomas, husband of Laura Grossi, Cleveland, OH, and Samuel, husband of Beth Kotz, Harrisburg, parents of two great-grandchildren, Caspar and Marceline. He was preceded in death by brothers Henry, Levi Jr., John Wissler, and sister Martha (Brubaker).
Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church Cemetery on Orange Street in Lititz, with Pastor Nathan Frey officiating. Memorial contributions in Paul's memory may be made to the Trinity E.C. Church memo "Mission Fund."
