Obituary

Paul Berdiner of Washington Boro passed away Monday, March 23,rd at the age of 89. He was born in Gilberton, Pa. in 1925, The son of John and Cathryn (McCabe) Berdiner. Paul shared 69 wonderful years of marriage with Joan (Campbell) Berdiner . In 1943 he enlisted in the US Navy and served 3 years as a member of the Naval Armed Guards, serving mostly in the North Atlantic Theater as a gunner aboard the SSJohn Phillips Sousa, SS Montclair Victory, and the SSBenjamin Silliman. He also participated in the D Day invasion of Normandy. Paul was a longtime member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Millersville, Pa. He was also a member of the Millersville VFW Post He and his wife built and operated the Brereton Manor Personal Care Home in Washington Boro for 40 years. He also was employed by ITT Grinell.

Although his last years were spent living with Alzheimers Disease, he never lost his ability to enjoy his family and friends, who surrounded him with love and caring. He was able to live in his home until the last week when illness prevented that. The couple had four children. Raymond, Lancaster, Flagler Beach, Fla. Joan Segro, Red Lion, Pa. George, (Cathy Haug) Millersville, Boni Zeigler ,Washington Boro. Nine grandchildren, Steven (Jill Matroni) Segro, Matthew (Laura Hanson) Segro, Lisa (Jeff ) Peters, Paul(Casey Reese) Berdiner, Tim, Sara, Shanna, Berdiner Scott and Jonathan Zeigler. Great grandchildren, Colin, Cole and Quinn Peters, Gabe, Evie and Callie Segro and Chase and Laine Berdiner. He is survived by a sister, Dolores Giering, Glen Mills, Pa. Predeceased by brothers John, James, Wilbert and Raymond and sisters Mary and Gloria (Tony) Dipietro .

For many years Paul enjoyed raising and training thoroughbred horses on his farm in Washington Boro and racing them at the Penn National and Delaware race tracks. He also loved playing softball, mostly with the church leagues and later played with the Willow Street Ole Stars, until he was 79 years of age. He was also a lifelong New York Yankees fan.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 10AM until the time of the 11AM Funeral Service at Grace United Methodist Church, 163 W. Frederick St. Millersville, PA 17551. Interment will be held in the adjoining church cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.
