IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patti Bruce
Hunter
August 12, 2024
Patti Bruce Hunter passed away on August 12, 2024, after a long and hard battle with a rare brain disease, Corticobasal Degeneration. She was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley alongside her three siblings and many cousins. After graduating from Stonewall Jackson High School she set her sights on pharmacy school, getting a degree from the University of Richmond and eventually getting her first position at Cardinal Pharmacy in Richmond.
After working in several pharmacies, she bought herself her first house in Richmond, one of the proudest accomplishments of her younger years. From there she met Edward, the man who would become her husband, and the two were married in Otterbein Methodist Church in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The wedding occurred during the weekend of Hurricane Hugo, which set the tone for their entire 35-year marriage.
And what a marriage it was. Together Patti and Edward lived in Richmond, Knoxville, Dallas, and Allentown, before eventually settling down in Lancaster, PA, where she spent the next 20 years raising their two children and many cats.
Patti was an incredibly active member of the community. She organized fundraisers and food drives, hosted events for Boy and Girl Scouts, and tried to bring joy and hospitality to everyone she met. She loved to host parties and get-togethers; most impressively a 10-year annualtrick-or-treat bash in the backyard, hoping in vain that kids would fill up on her famous chili instead of just candy. She loved the outdoors and spending time on the lake with her family and friends. She also loved golf, a passion instilled in her by her parents growing up, and one that she has since passed on to her kids. She loved football, especially getting to tailgate with her kids and friends at Penn State and Temple University football games. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she even mustered the courage to take up downhill skiing at 49 years old and got good pretty quickly.
She loved Thanksgiving, maybe even a bit more than Christmas, and would even take plates of dinner down to the local pharmacy so that they could have a nice meal on the holiday. She loved her cats, proudly the owner of over a dozen cats in her lifetime. And she loved people, more than anything else. It is often cliche to say that a person loved their family. Yet Patti was never happier than when her big, diverse, noisy gaggle of relatives and friends were around. None more than her children.
She is survived by her devoted husband Edward, her son, Paden, and her daughter, Meredith, who will miss her dearly. She is also survived by her brother Greg Bruce and sister-in-law Sandra Bruce, her sister Gwen Moore and brother-in-law Curtis Moore, her sister T. Stefan Bruce, and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is also survived by Charlie, Daisy, Tilly, and Oreo, her loyal cats who she loved to cuddle up with.
