Obituary

Patricia Ann Teeters Marine, 88, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away on June 24, 2026.

Pat was born in 1937 in Mansfield, Ohio, to Walter Harley Teeters and Marie Vivian Wright Teeters. She grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she attended Friendship Elementary School, and in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania, where she attended Shaler Elementary School and Shaler High School. In high school, she enjoyed participating in gym class, orchestra, marching band, and majorettes and made two lifelong friends Carol Price Bradac and Carol Yerkins Tipler. After graduating from high school in 1955, she attended Robert Morris secretarial school and worked as a secretary at Columbia Gas and Shaler High School before enrolling at the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1962.

At Pitt, she was a member of Mortar Board and an officer in student government. In her senior year, she was honored with a listing in the OWL Hall of Fame. She also joined the Delta Delta Delta sorority, which led her to meet Jim Marine, then a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, when they were fixed up by Judy and Ron Kiefer on a blind date to attend an interfraternity dance. They were married in 1963. The children of their union are James Teeters Marine, Nancy Marine Popendieker, Natalie Marine-Street, and Patrick Marine. Pat treasured her eight grandchildren: James Anthony Deeken, Matthew Lewis Deeken, Crystal Marine Dorothy, Percy Street, Theodore Street, Margaret Street, Andrew Marine, and Emily Marine. Spending time with them and inquiring after them was one of her true joys.

Pat loved to be in action and doing things. She was, in her words, “never a sitter.” In addition to caring for four children and her own mother and managing the household, she worked full-time at a variety of secretarial and other jobs. She had a lifelong desire to be a nurse but had difficulty completing the training due to the family’s frequent moves for Jim’s career with the JCPenney Company. She finally fulfilled that dream when she graduated with a certificate in practical nursing from First Coast Technical College in St. Augustine, Florida, in 2011.

Pat’s energy and initiative was boundless as was her compassion for others. She tackled household projects large and small and enjoyed tending to the yard and her flower gardens. She loved to sew and to bake pies and always felt best when she could hang the laundry on a clothesline to dry, a habit she learned as a young girl when she helped her grandmother who took in washing for a living. She loved birthday cake and bologna, and she made the best lasagna. She remains deeply beloved, and she will be sorely missed.

She was predeceased by her husband James M. Marine, her sister Nancy Teeters Bunce, an infant sister Mary Ellen Teeters, and her parents, and she is survived by her children and grandchildren.

The family offers special thanks to Pat’s daughter-in-laws Sara Rakus Marine and Sherrie Marine for care and companionship and to the staff of St. Martha Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare. Donations in memory of Pat can be made to the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing Scholarship Program.
