Norman C. "Buck" Hohenwarter, Sr., 88, formerly of Wilshire Hills, Lancaster, passed away Friday, August 17, 2018 at St. Anne's Retirement Community. He was born in Lancaster to the late Charles J. and Catherine E. Fritz Hohenwarter. Buck was the loving husband of Regina C. Welsh Hohenwarter for 69 years.
Buck graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in 1948. He worked at the former Buch's Pharmacy in the Postal Service sub-station for 20 years and retired from Exide Corporation after 23 years of service as the molding division purchasing agent.
He was a longtime parishioner, lector and usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Buck was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Club for over 25 years and a club board member for 22 years. He coached CYO basketball for 10 years and St. Joseph Football for 5 years. Buck was a member of Legion of Mary, Serra Club and the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
A sports fan, he cheered on Notre Dame. Buck enjoyed hunting in Potter County at Hillside Lodge. He previously served on the Lancaster City Zoning Board of Appeals.
Surviving Buck in addition to his loving wife Regina, are their sons Donald W. Hohenwarter, husband of Mary (Powell) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Rev. Norman C. Hohenwarter, Jr. of St. Anne's; their daughter Mary C. wife of Ronald Hemming of Birmingham, AL; and five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Buck was preceded in death by his infant sons Carl, Mark, John and Albert, and more recently by son Steve. Predeceased by his brothers Charles "Jim", Melvin L., Richard J. and Robert J. Hohenwarter, Buck was the last of his immediate family.
A viewing will take place Tuesday, August 21st from 10 to 11 AM, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with The Rev. Norman C. Hohenwarter, Jr. as Celebrant, in the St. Anne's Retirement Community Chapel. Final Commendation and Farewell will take place in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. Following Buck's wishes, please omit flowers and consider mailing a memorial contribution to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St., Lancaster, PA 17603 or St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512.
