Nicholas J. Sapone, 85, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Friday, April 06, 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital.
He was the husband of the late Patricia R. "Pat" Keller Sapone, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage, who passed away in 2011. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John and Christina Pisani Sapone.
Nick had worked as a purchasing agent for James F. Wild Inc. of Lancaster for 42 years, until retiring in 1991. After his retirement, he continued to work part-time for Wilds.
He was an active member of St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Mens Club and Guys and Dolls.
Nick was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 12th Cavalry Division in the Philippines Campaign, where he received the Combat Infantry Badge. He was then transferred to the Army Air Corps, serving in the 5 th Air Force during the occupation of Japan. He was a member of VFW Post 7294 of Millersville.
He is survived by his sons: Nicholas J. Jr, married to Lyn Wolff Sapone of Lancaster, and James L. of Lancaster; his four grandchildren: Elizabeth, Michael, James, and Nicholas; his brother, Vincent Sapone of Lancaster, and his sister Jennie DiCola of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his son, Vincent Sapone and his brother, Anthony J. Sapone.
Friends will be received on Monday, April 9, 2012 from 7-9PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA, with the Recitation of the Rosary at 830PM. Friends may call again on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 from 10-11AM at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11AM, the Rev. Mark Weiss as Celebrant. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Nick's memory to St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church.
