Obituary

Nancy Ruth (Dailey) Simpson, 79, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 10, 2020. She was born on December 10, 1940, in Toledo, OH, and was the oldest of the five children born to the late Mable Marie (Rieman) Dailey and William Kenneth Dailey.

Nancy's childhood and youth were divided between a farm in Ohio and rural Washington State.

These two settings inspired her love of gardens and the outdoors early on. She was a 1958 graduate of Clay-Genoa High School. In 1961, she earned a Certificate of Associate in Business from the University of Toledo and married civil engineer James Cary McKinstry in Toledo, OH (divorced 1982). They raised their four children while living in various cities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. In 1984, she married James Simpson (divorced 1991).

Nancy was very active in the life of her church wherever she lived and made life-long friendships. She enjoyed attending weekly Bible studies and singing in the choir. Nancy had a beautiful soprano voice and was a frequent soloist in Christmas and Easter cantatas. Nancy took great pride in her four children and was tirelessly dedicated to their well-being and education, as well as volunteering in their schools. Nancy not only cherished her faith, family, and friends, she also enjoyed learning new things and meeting new people. Reading, sewing, and needlework were three of her favorite hobbies.

Professionally, she had twelve years of experience in banking as a part-time teller and then advanced to accountant/financial analyst at various corporations in the Detroit area. In 1988, she completed a B.S. in Financial Services/Accounting at Madonna University and became an active member in the Business and Professional Women's Association in Michigan. The last company she worked for was Visual Services in Livonia, MI, and retired in 2003. During her retirement years, Nancy pursued new hobbies, especially travel with her family and friends on trips to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Bahamas. She took painting classes and became very involved with a seniors' group called the "Jet Setters" at Calvary Baptist Church of Canton, MI.

During the last years of her life, Nancy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, but this never impacted her generous and joyful disposition. She always wanted to devote more of her time to working with senior citizens—and, as a resident at various assisted living centers, she was uniquely able to fulfill that hope. She first resided at Sunrise Retirement Community in Michigan to be near her son, Roy, and his family. In the summer of 2015, she moved to Pennsylvania to be close to her daughter, Kay and her family. In her last two years, she resided at Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, located in the rolling hills of Lancaster County, where she enjoyed the natural beauty of the country, which reminded her so much of her childhood years.

Surviving Nancy are her four children, Paul McKinstry of Westland, MI; Jane Milosch, wife of Mark of Silver Spring, MD; Kay Weber, wife of Kenneth of Lancaster, PA; Roy McKinstry, husband of Laura of Northville, MI; six grandchildren, Christina (McKinstry) Brittos; Tiffany McKinstry; Joel Weber; Natalie Weber; Andrew Crowell; and Ian McKinstry; three of her four siblings, Kenneth Dailey, husband of Rosemarie of Lubbock, TX; Bonita Ion, wife of Patrick of Ann Arbor, MI; and Deanna Yabe of Renton, WA; seven nieces and nephews, Chris Dailey, Elliott Ross, Hillary (Ross) Stark, Peter Ion, Nico Ion, Michael Yabe, and Tom Yabe; and her grandpuppy Francesco Milosch.

A virtual memorial service for the immediate family will be held on Monday, May 18th, followed by a graveside service and interment on June 10th in Michigan. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial service and reception for friends and family will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Canton, MI, at a later date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Nancy's memory to: Mount Hope Nazarene Retirement Community , 3026 Mount Hope Home Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
