Miltiadis "Milton" Hatzivasilis, 74, formerly of Lancaster, died at Lancashire Hall on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Born in Asfendiou-Lagoudi, Greece, he was the son of the late Antonios and Despina Diakanastasis Hatzivasilis. His wife of 43 years, Maria D. Hatzidimitris Hatzivasilis, died in 2008.
Milton operated his own barbershop in Greece at age 16, before moving to Germany at age 18 to become a sailor. Four years later he moved to Australia, where he worked as a barber, met and married Maria, and enjoyed the birth of their daughter Dessie. In 1971 the family moved to America and he worked as a press operator for Burnham Corp. for 22 years.
A very proper and gentle man, Milton loved Greek music, dancing, and helping people. He enjoyed soccer. He was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
Milton's family includes his son Antoni Hatzivasilis, husband of MaryBeth Steiner of Mount Joy, daughter Dessie M. Hatzivasilis of Lancaster, granddaughter Julia M. Hatzivasilis and step-granddaughter Ashley Steiner of Mount Joy; 4 sisters, Melpomenee Hatzivasilis of Greece, Maria Zafiris and Irene Hatzivasilis of Australia and Katina, wife of George Katsaros of Lancaster; 2 brothers, Tasos Hatzivasilis of Australia and Niko Hatzivasilis of Greece; and several nieces and nephews including Maria, Kosta and Antoni Katsaros, all of Lancaster.
In addition to wife Maria, Milton was preceded in death by his brother John Hatzivasilis.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, September 30, 2013, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, with Rev. Dr. Alexander Goussetis, Rev. Alexander Veronis, and Rev. Hector Firoglanis officiating. A viewing will be held at the church Sunday evening from 6 to 8 PM, with the Trisagion Service at 7 PM. Interment in Conestoga Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603 or to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
