Mickina "Micki" Genoese passed away on September 25, 2014, after a short stay at St. Anne's nursing facility. Born in Lancaster on June 5, 1932, Micki was the only daughter of Italian immigrants Teresa and Joseph Roda and the youngest sister of Frank and John "Bot," all of whom predeceased her. Micki graduated from Sacred Heart grade school and Lancaster Catholic High School. She was a devoted homemaker who loved to sew, cook, bake, and play Canasta. Micki especially loved making things with her hands and was an accomplished seamstress, taking after her mother. Many collections of handmade ornaments, tea towels, knitted blankets, and embroidered samplers attest to her creativity and skill. Her all-time favorite activity was baking sweets, especially Italian recipes like honey-coated migniolata at Christmas, and rum cake for other special occasions. Micki also loved American homespun recipes, like her famous banana bread and sand tarts, made during baking marathons assisted by benevolently forced child labor. Micki is survived by her devoted husband, Antonino "Tony" Genoese; her children, Antonia Hinnenkamp, married to Larry, Francesco "Franc" Genoese married to MaryEllen, M. Elisa "Lisa" Genoese-Fulmer, married to Christopher; nine grandchildren to whom she was beloved "Nonna": Samuel and Francesca Genoese, Rachel and Caroline Hinnenkamp, Joseph, Anthony, Paige, Filomena and Marcus Fulmer; and a new great-grandchild, Ava Grace, daughter of Joseph and his wife Megan. Micki was predeceased by two children: Teresa, who died at birth in 1960, and Philip who died on July 12, 2014. Micki will be fondly remembered by her two surviving sisters-in-law, Virginia Roda Maher and Jean Roda Acklin, their 12 children, and especially Giuseppe and Donna Genoese. Micki grew up in "Little Italy" on Lemon Street and spent many hours at the Italian American Club on Queen Street with family and friends. These were happy times spent taking operatic voice lessons, working at Tank Truck and traveling to Margate, NJ with her two loveliest friends of a lifetime, Josie Kingree and Patsy Mazitis (deceased) whom she met at Catholic High. At 18 Micki met the dashing and eligible Tony by subtle arrangement of village elders while on a grand tour with her mother of her parents' Italian birthplace in Pentidattilo, the Isle of Capri, and Amalfi coast, with Tony as their guide. Six years later they were married on September 15, 1956. Micki and Tony were a very hardworking couple who were intent on achieving the American dream of success mostly measured by the wonderful and tight knit family that ensued. And they ultimately achieved this in part by their enduring love, loyalty and companionship of 58 years. Micki enjoyed watching her children become adults and always loved the sitting-around-drinking-coffee chats to catch up with their lives. But the best part of Micki emerged when she became a "Nonna." The grandchildren will forever treasure her wonderfully candid personality and their moments together especially the long conversations of conciliatory advice on all matters of life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 pm, Sat., Oct. 4th at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut St., with Rev. Michael Messner as Celebrant. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. A private burial will follow at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., W.
