IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael David
Brown
September 8, 2017
Michael David Brown, age 67, died of agent orange related cancer on September 8, 2017 at the Lebanon VA Hospital. Michael was born October 19, 1949 in Lancaster, PA to Hayes Brown and Margaret Helene Brown who predeceased him. Michael is survived by his daughter, Christine Anderton (Brown), grandson Jeffrey Anderton, son-in-law Jeff Anderton, brother Anthony Brown and sister Jill Turpack (Brown). Michael also leaves behind his beloved Yorkie, Sandy in the care of his daughter.
Michael was a Marine Veteran of the Vietnam war where he was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Combat Action Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Michael served with distinction in Vietnam as a rifleman and squad leader in some of the fiercest and most deadly combat operations in the war and fought with such ferocity that his platoon commander, (future FBI director) Lt. Robert Mueller gave him the nickname "Mad Dog."
As a returning combat veteran, Michael struggled with PTSD, but found relief in following Teddy Roosevelt's advice that "black care rarely stays with a rider whose pace is fast enough", and became an accomplished sailor who sailed his boat into the Atlantic in the roughest of weather because he believed that's where his boat and he belonged. Michael was also a skilled amateur middle weight boxer with a good jab and a right hand that could knock an opponent out with one punch. Michael is also a motor enthusiast and loved sports cars and driving across the country in his motor home. Before his retirement, Michael was a real estate broker and co-owner of Advantage Realty.
A Celebration of Michael's Life will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 6-8PM at Rocky Springs Entertainment Center. A Military Burial for Michael will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, September, 15, 2017 at Millersville Mennonite Cemetery, 435 Manor Street, Millersville, PA.
