IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael J.
Batutis
November 1, 2014
With profound sadness Judy L. Batutis announces the death of her beloved husband of 30 years, Michael J. Batutis, at home on Saturday, November 1, 2014 after an extended illness. Born in Lancaster, PA, Michael attended Lancaster Catholic High School, earned a BA from Franklin & Marshall College and a Master's degree in Sociology from Duke University in N.C. He also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Michael retired from the US Census Bureau in 2009 as Branch Chief of Population Estimates Division where he was responsible for overseeing national population estimates. His responsibilities also included overseeing the evaluation and accuracy of the census counts before publication. Before that he was employed by New York State as Chief Demographer in the Department of Economic Development. Michael authored and co-authored several publications and articles on population estimates and state data information. Michael loved all things trains! He was an avid train modeler as well as a frequent passenger. He was a student of military history, loved fine dining and fine wine and traveling. Michael was a passionate fan of college basketball (Go Duke!) and commiserated each season along with his much loved Washington Redskins. Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew him well. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Devin M. Batutis of San Jose, CA, a grandson, Dean also of CA, and a brother Patrick J. Batutis (Sandra) of Mount Joy, PA. A Gathering of family and friends will take place at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA from 2-4PM on Thursday, November 6, 2014 with the Service at 4PM where friends are invited to share memories of Michael. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA on Friday at 2:30PM.
