Melvin A. Hessler, 94, of Lititz, PA, passed away on January 3, 2018 at Moravian Manor Retirement Community. Born in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late Albert B. Hessler and Clara Theresa (Nortmann) Hessler. Mel was the husband to Dorothy "Dot" (Davis) Perry Hessler for 46 years. He was a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati in 1948 and was a member of the Alpha Sigma Fraternity. A veteran, he served in the US Army during WWII where he earned a Bronze Star with the 10th Armored Division near the end of the war. Mel retired after working for RCA for over 20 years as a manager at various RCA accounting departments from Indiana to Maine. Mel loved baseball, bowling and bridge, playing all of them during his more active years and loving them throughout his life. He was a member of the John Bear Senior Citizen Committee, past president of St. Anne and St. John Neumann Catholic Church Seniors, Eucharistic minister at St. John Neumann and St. James Catholic Churches, and past chairman of the Bishop's Lenten Appeal 1981-88 at St. John Neumann. He was also a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Knights of Columbus and St. Anne Home for Aged Advisory Board. In addition to Mel's wife, Dot, he is survived by sons: Thomas Joseph Hessler and Gary Albert Hessler; step-sons: George Joseph Perry and William Francis Perry; 5 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his only two siblings: George W. Hessler and Esther Naegle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Ave, Lititz, PA 17543. Friends will be received from 9-10 AM at the church. Mel will be laid to rest at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church or to Moravian Manor, 300 W. Lemon St, Lititz, PA 17543.
