Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Maxine Rosenthal, 77, who died unexpectedly at her residence in Lancaster, PA on November 18, 2023. She is survived by her adoring husband of 56 years, Jay Rosenthal. Also surviving, a sister, Ruth Macktez Landow of RI; niece Shoshana Landow Stein (Ethan), grand nephews Philip and Malcolm Stein of RI, and nephew, Noah Landow of NY. Max and Jay were mourning the loss of their beautiful daughter, Fae Elise Rosenthal, who passed away peacefully, at the age of 51, in January 2023. It is impossible to summarize in words Max's dynamic and beautiful nature. To help us, and true to form, Max jotted down some details of her much respected and admired life which we are honored to share.

Max was born on March 28, 1946, and raised in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. In 1967,

Max graduated from Boston University (Phi Beta Kappa). Upon graduation, she and Jay moved to Delaware where they began careers with the DuPont Company. Max was seen as a rising leader at DuPont where she held numerous analytical and managerial positions. While working full-time, and raising their beloved daughter, Fae, Max earned her Master's in Business Administration from the University of Delaware in 1982 (Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society). Max was also a talented and gifted metal smith and jewelry maker. After retiring from DuPont, Max pursued a successful second career as a craftsperson. Her jewelry was well respected and received numerous awards in juried craft shows. Her work was featured in galleries in New Mexico, Arizona, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Delaware.

Max volunteered her time and extraordinary talents to several causes that she was passionate about including women's economic empowerment, mental health advocacy and the arts. She was one of the original founders and a Chairman of the Delaware Community Foundation's Fund for Women and was a Board and Committee member of the YWCA of Delaware. She served as a Board Member and President of the Board of the Mental Health Association in Delaware and was actively involved in the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts serving as Treasurer of the Board of Directors.

Max was an amazing mother, wife, sister, aunt, colleague, and friend. She accomplished so much in her lifetime by working hard, making every minute count, and living through kindness. Please keep her family, especially her soul mate, Jay, in your thoughts as they navigate this sad year and beyond. A Celebration of Life for Max will be held on March 11, 2024 at 2 PM at The Delaware Contemporary (formerly DCCA), 200 S. Madison St, Wilmington DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Max's memory may be sent to the Delaware Community Foundation's Fund for Women, the Delaware Chapter of Planned Parenthood, YWCA of Delaware, or Mental Health Association in Delaware.
