Obituary

Maxine Elliott Fair, 96, formerly of Ephrata, PA and Canton, Ohio,  passed away peacefully at Landis Homes in Lititz, PA on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. Born on Feb. 10, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Delyte Zettler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl L. Fair, granddaughter Becky Whitmer Chapman, sisters, Vivian Allen, Dorothy Lewis and brothers Vince and Bobbie Zettler. Up until her last couple months, Maxine led a very full, independent life as a resident of Ephrata Manor. While living in Ephrata, she attended Highland Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, PA. One of her favorite charities was the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Hershey, PA. "Granny," as she was lovingly called, recently completed a 5K walk in her wheelchair to help raise money for the House. She always looked forward to serving breakfast to the families at the Ronald House on Christmas Eve, which she did for the last 14 years. In Canton, Maxine graduated from McKinley High School in 1930 and was a member of Lowell United Church of Christ. She worked at the 30th St. Plaza O'Neil's and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Ladies Oriental Shrine, Trirosis, Edgefield AARP, and the Canton Garden Club. She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie L., wife of Gene Gardner of West Jefferson, NC, Susan K., wife of Frank Reid of Bonita Springs, FLA, and Cathy J., wife of Daniel Kraft of Lancaster, PA, five grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Rosemary Kurzen. Maxine's faith and devotion to the Lord has helped all of us deal with her transition to Heaven. She had been exemplary in life and gracious as her time on earth came to a close. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions honoring Maxine may be made payable to the Ronald McDonald House Charities Capital Campaign Fund. These contributions may be sent to: RMHC of Central PA, 745 W. Governor Rd., Hershey, PA, 17033-2304. A private family ceremony celebrating her life will be held at Charles Snyder Funeral Home before her journey back to Ohio where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Carl at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Canton, Ohio.  Arrangements by the Charles F.
