Obituary

Maureen "Reenie" Gavin Hirschler, 66, passed away peacefully at her home in Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 after fighting ovarian cancer for the past three years.  She was surrounded by her loving family.  She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995 fought it and thrived.  She was the beloved wife of John R. Hirschler. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2010 with a surprise party hosted by their children at the home of her daughter, Kristin.

Born in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa Gavin Best.  She was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School, West Scranton.

She formerly worked at the Raymark Corporation, Manheim. She has assisted Marilyn Berger at Berger Real Estate, Lancaster, for the past 21 years.

Reenie loved her Catholic faith; it was her faith that gave her strength throughout her entire life.  Her family was central to her life; she adored her husband, children and grandchildren.  She always gave of herself. She will be sorely missed, not only by her immediate family, but also the family into which she married and her many, many friends. Reenie was very proud of her Irish heritage.  She was a wonderful, wonderful person. One of her many passions was playing slot machines at various casinos with her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, Jack; her son and his wife, Marc and Annie McKeon Hirschler, Wayne, PA;  daughter and husband, Kristin and Dr. Patrick Gilhool, Elizabethtown, PA; seven grandchildren; Jack, Elizabeth, and Henry Hirschler, Wayne, PA; and, Gavin, Patrick, Matthew, and Daniel Gilhool, Elizabethtown, PA; a sister and her husband, Anne (Bunny) and Robert Joyce, Moosic Lakes, Jefferson Township, PA.

In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her Godchildren, Jeanne Hirschler Conway (niece), Scranton, PA; Eric Williams (nephew), Wyoming, PA; and, Amanda Hirschler (niece), Factoryville, PA.

Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law include:  Helene Hirschler Williams, Lake Wallenpaupack, PA; James and Sandy Bizilia Hirschler, Clarks Summit, PA; Robert Hirschler, Old Forge, PA; Paul and Joanne Sylvester Hirschler, Clarks Summit, PA; Linda Hirschler Davailus, Scranton, PA; and Thomas and Maureen Burger Hirschler, Factoryville.

She was preceded in death by her 2-year-old son, Jackie, her parents, and her sister, Theresa Gavin Rohland.

Friends will be received on Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 5-7PM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Friends may call again on Monday, April 4, 2011 from 9-10AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 119 South Prince St., Lancaster, PA, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10AM, the Rev David Danneker as Celebrant.
