It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Matthew T. Heinle on June 26, 2026 at the age of 41.

Matt’s capacity for love was limitless. He cherished his family – parents Karen and Fritz; brothers Erik (Lori), Court (Carolina), and Colin (Sarah): nieces and nephews Max, Olivia, Luke, Charlie and Ema and his family dogs, especially his beloved Schatzie. Matt was raised with the belief that family is life’s ultimate purpose and as a result he could be found where they were gathered.

Matt loved the friends that he made throughout his life – Lancaster Country Day School, The Hun School, George Washington University (BA), and Villanova School of Law (JD) and the Lancaster community. His commitment to maintaining these friendships, regardless of how much time or distance had passed, never waivered. His loyalty was one of his defining characteristics and he was with his friends in times of both celebration and sorrow – a true anchor.

Matt’s pursuit of the law was driven by his interest in legislative policy and his core beliefs in democracy, equality, and rule of law. His devotion to his community and country was evidenced by his service in the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Matt was a curious and consummate learner. A core priority was to always stay informed about local and global events. He never shied away from debating on a topic of strong personal interest. His ability to debate was enhanced by his innate eloquence, quick mind, and love of reading. This skill as a debater was also manifested in his prowess with the written word as Matt was a very gifted writer.

His inherent curiosity led him to many projects including home renovations, building furniture for his condo, and rebuilding the engine of his beloved BMW. He was the technical specialist for the Heinle family setting up televisions, computers, and iPhones. There was little he couldn’t do if he set his mind to it.

Matt enjoyed traveling and was blessed with having experienced multiple continents and cultures. This would often lead to new culinary pursuits and experiments. A true “foody”, you could often find him in the kitchen trying new recipes and delighting his family and friends with his creations. Matt loved music and his desire to continue playing piano led him to the purchase of a specially designed piano that would fit in his condo.

Those of us who loved Matt and had the joy of being loved by him were blessed by his kindness, compassion, and spirit. We will remember him for his charismatic personality, unfailing quick wit, and his true interest in others. Matt’s beautiful smile and infectious laugh will be with us all forever.

Service with the Pennsylvania National Guard, a Program and Policy Analyst for the Pennsylvania Association of County Administrators of Mental Health and Developmental Services.

A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate and honor Matthew’s life on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 12noon at The Lancaster Country Club 1466 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. (There will be no visitation prior to the Memorial Service) Immediately following the Memorial Service there will be a gathering from 1-3pm at the country club. Interment will be private.
