Mary E. Yost of Leola, Pa passed away on March 5 just shy of her 94th birthday.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Herbert C. Yost and her father and mother, Vincent Heimenz and Johanna Kendig.
They raised four children in Lancaster, Pa: Herbert C., CSC (South Bend, IN), James (Margaret) of Macungie, Pa, John (Teresa) of Leola, Pa and Joanne (Gregory) of Vero Beach, FL
Mary had eight grandchildren: Kirstin (Liam) Powers, Melissa (Sporty) Acosta, Elizabeth (Loyed) McClary, Eric Yost, Jennifer (Tony) Ortiz, Jamie Yost, Lauren Heroux and David (Corey) Heroux.
Mary had 12 great-grandchildren: Hazel, Zeke, Zion, Elias, Miles, Olivia, Nora, Frances, Rowan, Jack, Owen and Jionni. Another great-grandson Orion Yost died in 2002 shortly after his birth.
A graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and St. Joseph's College, Mary was a full-time mom, a teacher and worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania where she retired in 1985.
From 1985 to 1991 Mary and Herb lived in Oxford, Md where Herb became an estate manager. Playing golf was also in the cards.
In 1991 the lure of golf and warm weather retirement lead Mary and Herb to Sunset Beach, NC where they enjoyed the sun, beach and golf till 2013 in which failing health caused a move to Atlanta, Ga near to their daughter, Joanne.
After Herb passed away in 2014, Mary moved back to her hometown in Pennsylvania and has lived with her son, John and daughter-in-law Teresa since 2015.
Mary loved the outdoors. While in Sunset Beach Mary and Herb maintained a bluebird trail at the Pearl Golf Course that was registered with the National Bluebird Association. Mary enjoyed reading, spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed watching the Big Bang Theory, her favorite show.
A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 150 Water St. New Holland, Pa on Friday, April 12, 2019. Family and friends may call at 10:30 am. Memorial Service at 11:00 am. A private interment will be held at Fort Indiantown Gap following the service. Kindly omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Priest of Holy Cross, P.O. Box 771, Notre Dame, In 46556-0771.
