Mary Rose Trauger, 92, of Lancaster died Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Cecilia (Miller) Wolpert. Mary Rose married her high school sweetheart John in 1946 and enjoyed a wonderful fun-filled relationship until his death in 2005.
She was a 1940 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and went on to graduate from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. Mary Rose proudly served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 318th General Hospital in Oahu and Okinawa and as a 1st Lieutenant in the 13th General Hospital in Osaka, Japan. She was a member of the first nursing group to enter occupied Japan at the end of WWII.
Mary Rose lived a life filled with laughter and was fortunate to be blessed with six wonderful children. She loved to fish and didn't care how small her catch was.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lancaster.
She is survived by five daughters, Kathleen A. Whittaker, of Allentown, PA, Patricia M. Trauger, wife of Jeremy Heiman, of Glenwood Springs, CO, Ellen M., wife of Charles "Nud" Geraci, of New Providence, Rebecca M., wife of Patrick McClure, of Holtwood, Joan M., wife of David Doiron, of Mansfield Center, CT and a son, John E. Trauger, of Willow Street. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Suzanne, wife of Raymond Schmidt, of York. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 119 S. Prince St, Lancaster, PA. Friends will be received one hour prior to the mass at the church on Saturday. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary Rose's memory may be made to the church at the above address.
