Mary E. Pierce, 78, of Lancaster, passed away at home on Monday, July 13, 2026. While her passing was unexpected, Mary entered eternal life peacefully, falling asleep while reading her book in the sun. She was the beloved wife of Charles H. "Charlie" Pierce Jr, with whom she would have celebrated 49 years of marriage in November.
Born in Lewistown, PA in 1947, she was a daughter of the late Warren & Nancy (McCormick) Harpster.
Mary was an active member of Highland Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, where she attended for 50 years. She oversaw the church Nursery and served as moderator of the church Deacons. Mary also operated her own in-home daycare from 1981 until her retirement in 2020.
Outside of taking care of others, Mary was a Lancaster Stormers fanatic and supporter, holding season tickets since day one. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cross stitch, and loved shopping and casino trips with her girlfriends. Mary also cherished her trips to the beach with her family.
Surviving Mary, in addition to her husband Charlie, are her children, Jennifer Ciampa (Joseph), Amy Fry, Christopher Pierce, and Corey Pierce (Tracy); 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and her siblings, Linda Shaffer (Scottie), Robin Bowersox, and Scott Harpster.
Relatives and friends will be received by her family in the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, after 5:00 pm until the time of her Memorial Service at 7:00 pm. Interment will be held privately for her family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mary may be made to the American Lung Association.
