IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Rose
Loughrain Turnpaugh
January 14, 2026
Mary Rose Loughrain Turnpaugh, 82, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026.
Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, she was the beloved daughter of the late Edward J. and Rose Helen (Carroll) Loughrain. Although her parents passed relatively young, Mary Rose remained a devoted daughter throughout her life. She adored her mother and often spoke to her in prayer, maintaining a deep spiritual connection that endured across the years.
Mary Rose was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury. Throughout her adult life, she worked a variety of jobs to provide for her school-aged children, steadfastly putting their needs first until each graduated from college. Only then did she take a courageous leap of faith in her 40s, returning to school to earn her bachelor's degree from Albertus Magnus College, an achievement she was deeply proud of. She later dedicated more than 17 years of service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a workplace safety instructor.
Deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, Mary Rose was a founding member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where she was an active and devoted parishioner, a lifelong choir member, and a Eucharistic minister. Her faith and service were central to her life. Gifted with a beautiful voice, she sang in high school, college, and church choirs throughout her life and was a frequent soloist.
She found great joy in traveling, especially visits to New York City, a love she joyfully passed on to her grandchildren, attending Broadway shows, and performances at the Fulton Theatre. Blessed with beautiful handwriting and a gift for poetry, her heartfelt notes and Christmas cards were treasured and considered exceptional reading. She was an avid reader, loved her garden, and took great pride in her Irish heritage.
Mary Rose loved Christmas and spent the entire year preparing for the day, delighting in the opportunity it gave her to express her generosity and the joy she found in giving to those she cared about.
First and foremost, Mary Rose was a family person. A devoted mother, grandmother, godmother, aunt, sister, and cousin extraordinaire, she never missed a birthday or special event. She cheered tirelessly for her family and friends, relishing their happiness and accomplishments. There was never born a better boost for the soul.
Mary Rose will be remembered as loving, outgoing, and selfless, with a huge heart, and as a great and thoughtful friend. She was a constant source of encouragement, warmth, and strength to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her three sons, Patrick Turnpaugh (Debra), Dr. C. Chris Turnpaugh (Heather), and C. Jay Bond (Kisha); nine grandchildren, Zoe (Bill), Delaney (Mike), Sean (Celia), Griffin (Elizabeth), Catherine (Jared), Christian, Colleen, Janessa (Christian), Melissa, and Jason; one great-granddaughter, Raya; her sister, Dr. Anne Carroll Loughrain; nieces Erin Walter (David) and their children, Madelyn and Connor, and Heather Winarski; cousins Mary Catherine Wallace and Rev. William Wallace; and her goddaughter, Alexandra Wallace.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 12:00 PM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601. The family will receive guests from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the Mass.
Flowers are graciously accepted, as Mary Rose loved her flowers.
