Mary R. Kling, 86, of 521A Abbeyville Road, died with family present at the Hospice of Lancaster County in Mount Joy on Wednesday, January 20 after a becoming ill over the Christmas holidays.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Lewis and Ruth Moser. Except for 2 years as a young adult when she lived in New York City, Mary lived on Cabbage Hill for most of her life, including 52 years at 115 Fairview Avenue. Mary worked at the New York Shipyard as a welder where she helped to build ships that contributed to winning the war. She also worked as a Civil Service employee office administrator and had a brief stint as a model. Her working experience in Lancaster was initially as a teller, then bookkeeper at the A&P Supermarket on King Street. This is where, as a young woman after World War II, she met her husband, Richard M. Kling, the love of her life. They were wed in 1946 and her four children followed from 1947 through 1956. She left A&P to raise her family and when they were old enough she returned to work first at the Hotel Brunswick, and then at Hamilton Watch, from where she retired in 1986.She was a devoted member of the Covenant United Methodist Church, Lancaster, where she volunteered as a receptionist for 20 years.
Family was the center of her life, and Nana was like a second mother to her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by daughters Susan M., wife of Stephen J. Senkowski of Lancaster,and Carol A.,wife of Dennis N. Mohr of Bainbridge; sons Terry R., husband of Karen I. Kling of Glen Mills, and Richard M.Jr., husband of Denyse Kling of Lititz;11 grandchildren:John Giordano, Mark and Matthew Senkowski, Michael,Sherry and Crystal Mohr, Jeremy and Terry Kling,Jr.,and Lindsay,Blair,and Cassidy Kling;6 great-grandchildren; sisters Evelyn Baumgardner and Barbara Greenawalt, both of Lancaster, and Gloria Ames of Reading; and 2 brothers, Winfield and Louis Moser,both of Lancaster.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Richard M. Kling, Sr. in 1987;2 sisters, Ruth Fry and Grace Mowrer; and 2 brothers, James and Ronald Moser.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Anne's Retirement Community and especially the people at Hospice in Mount Joy for the caring support provided since Mary's illness over the Christmas holidays.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, January 26, 2009 from 930-1030AM at Covenant United Methodist Church, 110 N. Mulberry St., Lancaster, PA, with the Funeral Service to follow at 1030AM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
