IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Ann
Elizabeth (Sevec) Bozym
November 4, 2024
Mary Ann Elizabeth (Sevec) Bozym, 82, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, at Landis Homes, where she had been a resident since 2022. Mary Ann was surrounded by family, friends, and the compassionate care of her Landis caregivers as she ended a long, brave battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Born on July 29, 1942, in Dupont, PA, Mary Ann was the daughter of Andrew and Matilda (Zarichak) Sevec. She was preceded in death by her siblings, John Sevec, Andrew Sevec Jr., Francis Sevec, Monica (Sevec) Maletta, and Rose Sevec. Mary Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Charles P. Bozym; her daughter, Stephanie (Bozym) Schreyer, wife of Timothy Schreyer; her cherished grandchildren, Charlotte ("Char") and Sheridan Schreyer; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A graduate of St. John the Baptist School and St. John the Evangelist High School in Pittston, PA, Mary Ann went on to earn her R.N. from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Scranton, PA, in 1963. Her nursing career began as a maternity nurse at Mercy Hospital and continued at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA, and Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, PA. After welcoming her daughter Stephanie, Mary Ann dedicated the next 15 years to caring for her family and home. She later returned to nursing, working for Dr. Milton Ming-Deh Lu, a plastic surgeon in Lancaster, PA. Above all, her most rewarding role was caring for her grandchildren, Char and Sheridan, whose lives she enriched with endless love and devotion.
Since 1976, Mary Ann was a proud participant in the landmark Nurses' Health Study at Harvard Medical School, contributing valuable insights into women's health that have helped shape public health recommendations in cancer prevention, heart health, and the effects of diet and lifestyle.
Mary Ann loved traveling with her husband, Charlie, and together they enjoyed unforgettable trips to Bermuda, Sanibel Island, and St. Michaels. She also cherished annual visits to Ogunquit, ME, and Vermont with her sister Monica and her husband, Dr. Tom Maletta. A loyal fan of classic sitcoms, Hallmark movies, and "her soaps," Mary Ann adored all types of music, with Elvis always holding the title as her "King of Rock and Roll."
Mary Ann will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her family and friends take comfort knowing she is reunited with cherished friends from her Meadow View neighborhood.
Mary Ann was a devout Catholic. She and her husband were long term members of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in New Holland and recent members of St. John Newman Parish in Lancaster PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601.
