Mary E. Cunningham, 91, of St. Anne's Retirement Community passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015. Born in Coatesville, PA she was the daughter of the late Harry A. Aukamp and the late Helena R. (Shultz) Aukamp. She was the wife of the late Bernard V. Cunningham who passed away August 26, 1999. She was a 1941 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School and a graduate of Lancaster General School of Nursing and later attended NYU and graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Mary worked as a registered nurse for the Veterans Administration Hospital in the Bronx, NY and later served as the assistant chief nurse of the nursing service at the Coatesville VA Hospital. She is an alumni to the Lancaster General School of Nursing. She was a longtime faithful supporting member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and its activities, where she volunteered on the bereavement committee and was a member of the Parish council, and supported Vietnamese refugees. Mary was a veteran of WWII where she served in the US Army nurses corp as a lieutenant in the south pacific campaign based in the Philippines. She is survived by her dear friend, Shirley Hudock, wife of Francis of Lancaster, and loving nieces in New York and Florida. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Friday, January 16, 2015 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St, Lancaster, PA 17602. Friends will be received from 8:30-9:30AM with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8:30AM at the Charles F Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St, Lancaster, PA 17602. Interment in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the church at the above address.
