IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary (Schlegelmilch)
Brosey
March 8, 2024
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Brosey, fittingly on International Women's Day, March 8, 2024. Born in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late Michael M. and Minnie Hollis Mohn. She was the widow of the late James S. Brosey.
She was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School Class of 1948. She was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church where she was known as the hugging usher at 11 AM Mass. Mary also served on various other committees. In her younger days, she was president of the original mother's club and a den mother of the cub scout pack. She was also an assistant church organist.
Prior to her passing at the age of 93, Mary was always a trailblazer. She started her career in the 50s at Posey Iron as a full-time working mother. She eventually retired from Housing Development Corporation as an Executive Secretary/ Office Manager in 1995. She was previously employed as a secretary at Dodge Cork.
She didn't let retirement keep her from staying busy and giving back to the community. Her memberships included advisory council for the Office of Aging, American Legion Auxiliary 34, and volunteering with Hospice and Make a Wish Foundation. She was a former member of the boards of Big Brother/ Big Sister, Homeowners of Pheasant Ridge, a former member of ABWA, and professional secretaries. She was also an active volunteer for the Brethren Village Auxiliary.
Mary enjoyed going on bus trips, playing piano and spending time with her family. She loved to jitterbug and during her downtime you could find her reading a good book.
She is survived by her children Eileen Schlegelmilch-Meshew and Mary F. Schlegelmilch-Geiger married to Michael; her grandchildren: Michael (Michelle) Geiger Jr, Jeremey (Laradel) Schlegelmilch, Heather Daub, Alexander (Paige) Geiger, and Abigail Geiger; and her great-grandchildren: Aria, Maddox, Stiffany, Damian, Matthew, Luke, and Zachary with two new babies expected this summer. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sons: Michael C, Eugene Donald, and infant son, Eugene P. Schlegelmilch Jr.
We want to thank Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center for not only the wonderfully dedicated care, but the love the staff showed our mother the past few months. We will forever be grateful. Kindly omit flowers, and any memorial contributions may be sent to Zerbe Sisters, Activities Dept., 2499 Zerbe Road, Narvon, PA 17555 in memory of Mary Brosey.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10AM on Friday, March 15, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 119 S. Prince Street, Lancaster, PA, 17603. Friends and family will be received from 9AM to 10AM. Inurnment will be private at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery.
