Mary O'Hara Bomberger Burke, 91, formerly of 613 State Street, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 4, 2017. She was born on February 23, 1926, her family was from Ireland. She was married to Edward A. Burke since 1995. Her first husband, Richard W. Bomberger, and son, Richard Watson Bomberger, III, predeceased her. Mary Burke had a long career providing nursing services in the Lancaster area and elsewhere. She was graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Lancaster and subsequently worked in the St. Joseph's Hospital Emergency Room from 1946-1955. She later served as Director of Nursing Services at Lancaster's Conestoga View Nursing Home from 1970-1986. She also served in the administration of St. Anne's Nursing Home from 1986-2000. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and was awarded a 20-year pin for her service. She traveled as an army wife for 16 years, and had four children. Mary Burke was graduated from Elizabethtown College with a Bachelor's Degree and received a Master's Degree in Education from Temple University. From 1986 to the present, she remained a member of the Fraternal Order of the Dominican Laiety. She was a registered member of the Women's Memorial in Washington D.C. and served in the Nurses' Cadet Corps during World War II. She also volunteered at the Dominican Monastery in Lancaster, and was a member of the Legion of Mary. She is survived by her husband, Edward A. Burke, as well as three children: Anne Elizabeth Hopkins (married to Nicholas), Michael David Bomberger (married to Kimberly) and Mary Catherine Rhoads; Bridget Ricker was an additional step-daughter. She had seven grandchildren, including: Richard Bomberger IV, Stephen Bomberger, Jennifer Biryukov (married to Sergei Biryukov), Sarah Hopkins (married to Cody Perkins), Christopher Hopkins, Timothy Rieker (married to Amy) and Daniel Rieker. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Nikolai Biryukov, Sofia Biryukov and Ariana Biryukov. The family will receive visitors from 10-11 am with the Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11 am on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut Street, Lancaster, PA 17603. A private burial will take place at the Boonsboro Municipal Cemetery in Boonsboro, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Lancaster's Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the Dominican Sisters of The Perpetual Rosary, 1834 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.
