IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary "Koula"
Andreades Valldes
February 21, 2014
Mary "Koula" Andreades Valldes, 79, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2014. Known as Koula to her friends and family, she was the daughter of Greek immigrants, the late George and Mary (Marouka) Andreades from Chios, Greece.
After graduating from McCaskey High School, Koula worked at Schick, RCA of Lancaster, and later after raising her children, at the Glass Kitchen at The Willows as a waitress for 20 years.
She was married to the love of her life, Michael L. Valldes for 60 years this coming November. Mike and Koula lived life to the fullest. Their early years started in Texas while Mike served in the Air Force.
During her marriage, Koula always selflessly put her husband's and children's needs before her own. She was a fabulous cook who enjoyed family gatherings and spending time surrounded by those she loved. The greatest joys of her life were her 7 grandchildren, who affectionately called her Yia-Yia.
Koula was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, where she helped with the annual church Bazaar. She was also a former member of The Daughter's of Penelope.
Koula also enjoyed traveling with her husband. Their most memorable adventures took them to France, Israel, Greece, and Egypt. Koula was a very talented artist and enjoyed painting Folk Art and decorating her home. She was fondly remembered for her love of life, strength, grace, and her remarkable sense of humor.
In addition to her husband, Koula is survived by three children: daughter Maria, wife of Joe Winalski, son Stas Valldes, partner of Maureen McElrone, daughter Renee, wife of Rick Denlinger, all of Lancaster; Grandchildren Matthew Winalski of NYC, Krista Winalski of Philadelphia, Michael Winalski of Dallas, TX, Luke and Kayla Valldes of Lancaster, Alec and Nick Denlinger of Lancaster. Koula was preceded in death by a brother, John Andreades.
The Family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Conestoga View Nursing Home and Compassionate Care Hospice for the many kindnesses expressed throughout this difficult journey.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 11AM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave, Lancaster, Pa 17603, with Rev. Alexander Goussetis officiating. The viewing will be at the church from 10AM to 11AM. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Koula's memory to The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Lancaster.
