Obituary

Martin G. Murphy, 82, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Jonestown, he was the son of the late Martin L. and Marie (Murphy) Murphy, and the husband of Dorothy E. (Bradley) Murphy of Lancaster.

A die-hard Notre Dame fan, he also enjoyed watching the Eagles and the Phillies.

He was employed as a pressman for Fuller Type Setting from 1959 until 1983.  He then worked at the Ephrata Post office from 1985 until his retirement in 1994.

Martin was a 1948 graduate of Cass Township High School in Jonestown and a member of American Legion Post #34, Knights of Columbus Council #867, and Guys and Dolls.

He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served from 1951 to 1954.

He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife of 46 years, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin A. and Brenda Murphy of Ephrata; a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen M. and James Shank of Quarryville; two sisters, Phyllis Robinson of Bristol, PA and Mary Ann Jones of CA; seven grandsons and one step-granddaughter.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Christ United Methodist Church, 935 E. Walnut St., Lancaster with Rev. Roseann Goldberg and Rev. Sally Ott officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 am at the church. Inurnment will be private at a later date.
