Obituary

Marlene H. Evans, of Brethren Village, Lancaster, formerly of Clarks Summit, PA died peacefully on Sept. 1, 2014 at the Courtyards in B.V. Born in West Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Emma (Selig) Harris. She was the wife of Ned L. Evans and recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Surviving along with her husband is one daughter, Lorene (Richard), of Lancaster, two sons, David (Susan), of Zimbabwe, Africa serving with World Vision and Jeffrey, of Doylestown; Seven grandchildren, Erin, Jesse, Kathryn, Bronwyn, Andrew, Marlee, and Lilly; One sister, Linda (Bob) Smith, of Fort Wayne, IN, sister-in-law, Sally Ann Harris, of Harleysville, PA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Harris.

She was a graduate of West Scranton H.S. class of 1952. Before retirement, she worked for Girls Scouts in Scranton and earlier years for Bell Telephone.

She was a truly devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and loved the Lord. She was active teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, mission chairperson and bible studies at Faith Community and Evangelical Free Bible Church in Clarks Summit. In retirement she became a tutor with the Scranton Council for Literacy Advance (SCOLA) devoting many years teaching English. She was also active in Christian Women's After Five Clubs as a speaker in states on the east coast.

She loved to travel and has been to Chad, Bolivia, the Holy Land, Wales, England and across America several times.

Funeral Services will be held at 3PM on Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Interment will be at Abington Hills Cemetery, Clarks Summit, PA on Tuesday, September 9. 2014 at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the ministry of Evan and Rebecca Smith serving in Kyrgyzstan with W.E.C. International, P.O. Box 1707 Fort Washington, PA 19034, Missionary Retreat Fellowship, 74 Missionary Retreat Rd, Jefferson Township, PA 18436 or Hospice Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Dr, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
