Obituary

Marjorie S. Smith, 95, passed away on Friday, the 6th of December, at Moravian Manor in Lititz, PA.

Born in 1929 in Raleigh, N.C., Marjorie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Agnes Scott College, Decatur, GA, in 1951. She had a leadership position in Girl Scouts of America in Lancaster County. She was then a long-time resident of Lewisburg, PA, where she raised her family with her first husband, J. Bertram Strickland.

In 1980, she married David Smith and moved to England. She developed many close friendships there and also enjoyed gardening, quilting, and traveling. Upon the death of her husband in 2012, she returned to the US and moved to Moravian Manor.

She is survived by her son, Peter Strickland, of CA, husband of Jan; daughter Sarah Mershon, of Lititz, wife of Charles; daughter Martha Moore, of MO, wife of James; grandchildren Ruth Karthak, of India, wife of Terrance; Peter Mershon, of Carlisle, husband of Dana; and two great-granddaughters, Norah and Anna.

A funeral service will be held at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will be in Witness Park Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Moravian Manor Benevolent Care Fund, 300 West Lemon Street, Lititz, PA, 17543. The Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, Lititz, has been entrusted with arrangements.
