Maria N. Sofillas, 68, of Lancaster, PA, formerly of Crete, Greece, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Crete, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Nikolaos and Evagelia (Karabetsou) Hatzi. Maria was a faithful member of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. She was active in the Philoptochos Society and the Women's Agape Bible Study group. Maria also volunteered her time to help with the annual Greek Bazaar. Maria moved to the U.S.A. from Greece in the late 1960's. She was a self-taught immigrant and very intelligent. Maria worked at the Family Style Restaurant for many years until it was closed. She also was office manager at the Triangle Car Wash until her retirement. She enjoyed baking Greek pastries and foods, as well as sewing. Maria visited her family and friends in Greece periodically. She enjoyed reading spending time with her church community, family, and friends. Maria is survived by her loving son, Konstinos "Dino" Sofillas, of Lancaster and one sister, Catherine Hatzi and other relatives and friends in Greece. Maria's viewing will be held from 3-4pm on Thursday, September 22 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA, followed by a Trisagion Service at 4PM, The Rev. Alexander Veronis will officiate at the service. Maria will be taken to Athens, Greece to be laid to rest in her homeland.
