Margaret M. (Terry) Winnerling of Palmetto FL passed away Friday, June 20, 2014 at 12 a.m. at the Manatee Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Margaret only lived in Palmetto for a year this month, but she was befriended by many loving neighbors in her community.
Born in Coaldale, PA, she lived most of her life in Lancaster, PA, married to husband of 66 years, William J. Winnerling, Jr, who preceded her in death in August of 2012. She was the daughter of the late Stephen (Terihaj) Terry and Maria Schiffer.
Margaret was baptized at St. Cyril Methodius Church and graduated from Coaldale High School in 1942, followed by cosmetology school. She moved to Lancaster, PA where she worked as a "Rosie The Riveter" at Armstrong Cork Co. during the war. After marrying William on 9/28/46 she started her life-long career as "mom" to 6 children.
She is survived by her children, Donna M. Steinmetz of Palmetto, FL, William J. Winnerling III, husband of Berit of Palmetto, FL, David Winnerling, husband of Carla of Pequea, PA, Jane M. Sweater, wife of Richard of Lititz, PA, James Winnerling husband of Patricia of Millsboro, DE and Paul W. Winnerling, companion of Len Goldston of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and brother William Terry, husband of Grace, of High Ridge, MO. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11AM Friday, June 27, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Tariq Isaac as Celebrant. A viewing will be held at the church on Friday between 10-11AM. Entombment will be held at Conestoga Memorial Park Mausoleum. A luncheon will follow the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's memory to Suzanne H. Arnold Center for Breast Health, LGH Health Campus, Bldg. 2104, Lancaster, PA 17601, or the Humane League of Lancaster Co., 2195 Lincoln Hwy. E., Lancaster, PA 17602, or The Water Street Rescue Mission, 210 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17601.
