Margaret Ruth Moyer, age 101, died June 13, 2016 surrounded by loving family, friends and care givers, Carol Foltz and Robin Herzog. Peggy was married to Jay (Bud) W. Moyer for fifty-six years, who died in 2000. The wedding ceremony was performed in the chapel at Fort Sam Houston, Texas where Mr. Moyer was training with a US Army unit that, shortly after their marriage, was shipped to China for a twenty month war campaign. Peggy was the daughter of Leo and Anna Hauck of Lancaster. Leo Hauck was a widely known Pennsylvania Hall Of Fame boxer and baseball and boxing coach at Penn State University. Mrs. Moyer is the last surviving member of the first Lancaster Catholic graduating class of 1932. She remained a faithful supporter of LCHS. Peggy was an honor student and a member of the girls basketball team. After high school, Peggy was employed at Watt and Shand Department Store. She continued to work there part time for many years. After retiring from there, she worked at Miesse Candy retail store. For many years, she was a clerk at the Lancaster voting polls. Peggy and Bud had five children, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is survived by her children James Moyer and wife Brenda, Margaret Beinder and husband Bruno, Thomas Moyer and wife Barbara, Ann Pletcher and Theresa Moyer. Also, two brothers Edward B. Hauck and Joseph Hauck. She is predeceased by her two sisters Mary and Nancy, her two brothers Leo and Thomas and her grandson Kristofer Beinder. Friends will be received on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 10-11AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA, with the Mass to follow at 11AM. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in her memory to the Sacred Heart School, 235 Nevin St., Lancaster, PA 17603 or to Lancaster Catholic High School Endowment Fund, 630 Juliette Ave, Lancaster, PA 17601.
