Margaret "Margie" Bernhardt, 83, of Lititz passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Moravian Manor. Born in Williamsport, PA she was the daughter of the late Francis and Clara (Wheeler) Stopper. She was the loving wife of Richard "Dick" Bernhardt with whom she shared over 53 years of marriage. She was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Williamsport and later attended Lycoming College in Williamsport and the University of Miami in FL. Margie began her working career in Williamsport and moved to New York City where she worked for Salvage & Lee as a bookkeeper. She later moved to Miami, FL where she worked in accounts payable for a swimming pool company. Margie returned to Williamsport, where she met her husband, and lived her married life in Leola. Margie was a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Rosary Society. She was a longtime member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church where she served in the Ladies Auxiliary for the Knights of Columbus Council 12532, St. John Neumann RCIA program, the church food bank where she packed and delivered food to Council of Churches to be distributed to those in need. She also was a member of the Lancaster Engineering Scholarship Society, where she served as the treasurer for many years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, traveling and most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children: Paul D. Bernhardt of Houston, TX, Marie C., wife of Dru A. Smith of Reston, VA, Mark R. Bernhardt, husband of Karen P. of Lititz, Janet M., wife of John R. Hornberger of Manheim, PA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Connor, Aidan, Meghan, Maryn, Mitchell, Katie and James. Preceding her in death were three sisters and one brother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd, Lancaster, PA 17601. Friends and family will be received from 10-11AM at the church on Thursday. Interment in St. Joseph's New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10305.
