IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marcia E.
Mendez
December 4, 2019
Marcia E. Mendez, 73, of Lancaster PA was released from her pain and suffering to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, December 4th, 2019. She died at home surrounded by family. Born in the Philadelphia Naval Hospital to the late Clair and Eleanor Myers, she grew up in Springfield Township, Delaware County and attended 69th Street Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. It was at that church where she met her husband Jorge H. Mendez with whom she shared 33 years of marriage.
Throughout those years, she was a wonderful and considerate wife and mother. She had artistic abilities demonstrated in the hobbies she enjoyed (coloring, quilting). And she discovered her passion as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher which she started doing at home and then as ESL Outreach coordinator at the 69th Street Church. Her skill and passion were recognized by the Delaware County Literacy council and she was asked to be their first ESL coordinator. When Jorge discovered his gift for teaching ESL, they established Pathways International, a successful private school in the Drexelbrook Apartment complex, Drexel Hill, PA where they were able to teach over 1100 adults and children in a 7-year period. She complimented her teaching gift with the gift of hospitality. She enjoyed hosting the church's Young Adult group for Sunday lunch for many years before meeting Jorge. She used her hosting and cooking skills to introduce many ESL students to American food especially around the holidays.
She is survived by her husband Jorge and sons David C. Robertson and Douglas E. Robertson.
A private burial service was held at the Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, December 7th, 2019.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Water Street Mission, 210 Prince St. Lancaster PA 17603 ( wsm.org ) are a great way to honor Marcia.
