Obituary

On February 8, 2018, Mae A. Goodman was called home for a long-awaited reunion with her husband of 48 years, Richard Goodman Jr., and her nine siblings. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. Mae was born on May 24, 1933 where she grew up on her family's farm in Conestoga. Mae will be remembered for her determination, positive "can-do" attitude, and strong work ethic. As a young woman with little life experience, Mae and her nine-month daughter Deborah, sailed from New York City to Bremerhaven, Germany to celebrate Christmas with her husband who was in the United States Army and to introduce him to his daughter. She lived in Germany for the next 3 years before returning to the United States where she made Lititz her home until her death.

Mae was a homemaker, wife and devoted mother of four children. As a mother, Mae will be remembered for the discipline that she applied in all areas of life which contributed to an uncanny ability to conquer many of life's challenges with impressive endurance and a tenacious will to overcome adversity. Her children will remember her as beneficiaries of the many life lessons she taught them, knowing that obstacles as they appear are opportunities for growth and new beginnings.

Mae was an avid bird watcher and she was dedicated to feeding them. She delighted in their songs, bright colors and entertaining behavior. She also enjoyed watching television placing emphasis on medical shows that disseminated health advice commonly passed on to her children and game shows that kept her mentally fit. She is survived by her four children, Deborah Ibach of Lititz, Vicki Goodman of Lititz, Cynthia Goodman of Lititz and Richard Goodman of York; in addition to seven grandchildren: Mikki, Shantell, Elizabeth, James, Kristy, Alex, and Ellen; 11 great grandchildren; and 7 great- great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Lititz Meals on Wheels, 300 West Orange Street, Lititz, PA 17543. The family also extends its gratitude to MOW for their kind and compassionate service. In honor of their mother, the children encourage others to feed birds, paying special attention to the ducks at Lititz Springs Park which is the source of fond childhood memories enjoyed with their mother.

Funeral Services will be held at 3pm on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Family and friends will be received from 2-3pm at the funeral home on Saturday. Interment will follow in Longenecker Cemetery.
