IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Louretta Juanita
(Jan) Coulson
July 15, 2018
Louretta Juanita (Jan) Coulson, 98, of Lancaster, Pa., passed away on July 15, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Delta "Dot" and Mary Christmas Longley. In addition to her parents and sister, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Clifford H. Coulson, and an infant son. Born in Moulton, Iowa in 1920, Jan moved with her family to Lancaster in 1958 when her husband accepted a postion at the former Watt & Shand Department Store. Cliff retired as vice president of Watt & Shand, after 25 years of service. Jan was an amazing mother, grandmother and a devoted friend. Her famous apple pies and cinnamon rolls were always highly sought after. She was an avid bridge player and passionate golfer –- once proudly sinking a hole-in-one. A basketball player in her Iowa youth, she was a member of the Appanoose County championship girls' basketball team in 1934. Jan quickly fell in love with Lancaster and became an active participant in the community, holding leadership positions in Towne Club and the Central Penn Women's Golf Assn. She was a member of Conestoga Country Club and Highland Presbyterian Church. Jan is survived by two daughters, Rita K., wife of Fred A. Hauer of Torrance, Calif., and Kathy Kinney of Mount Joy; a son, Steven L., husband of Patricia of Lancaster. Lighting up her life were four grandchildren, Fred Scott and Brian Hauer, Matthew Coulson, and Austin Kinney of Harrisburg; and one great-grandson, Scotty Hauer. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the amazing caregivers at the Mennonite Home for the loving care they gave to Jan the past five years. A celebration of Jan's life will be held on Saturday, July 28, at 10:30 a.m. in the Eagle Common Room at Woodcrest Villa's Welcome Center, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster. Friends may call any time after 10 a.m. Please omit flowers; contributions may be made in Jan's memory to the Susquehanna Service Dogs at www.keystonehumanservices.org or a charity of your choice. Jan will be laid to rest with Cliff and her parents in Iowa later this fall.
